Fermanagh Care Worker – Say hello to Sophie

Sophie is one of our new care team members in #Fermanagh and another inspirational young person choosing to care for their community.

Originally from #Kesh, Sophie has always wanted a career in Health and Social Care, and thanks to Devenish College in #Enniskillen where Sophie studied an A-Level in Health and Social Care, she was then accepted onto a foundation degree in Health and Social Care with South Western College.

After a period working in hospitality and completing her studies, she has now officially moved into the career path she wants to follow.

It is early days, but how have you found joining #NWCare?

“I am not afraid to admit that the responsibility of providing care for real, made me a little nervous, yes I had done plenty of practical study, but I decided to work in hospitality until I was ready. I was inspired by a friend to make the move and applied to join NWCare and now after completing my training and shadowing….I really wish I had moved into Social Care sooner”.

How do you plan to use this experience and opportunity?

“I really want to go and do Social Work at the University of Ulster Magee Campus next year, so this is going to give me an excellent platform to gain real practical experience and training, and its great that I get to do it close to home, they have even said I can bank whilst studying”.

Have you any guidance to others?

“As I said, the training helped me gain further confidence and now I am really enjoying it. It has been great that I have been able to study so close to home and then make the natural progression into work. Don’t be like me and leave it as long to do something you want to”.

Sophie is a great inspiration and we hope by learning from her that others will be encouraged during challenging times, to make a different to their community.
